Mary E. Andersen, a native of Traverse City, has resided and maintained a fine arts studio in Grand Rapids since 1991.  Alongside full-time work as an oil painter, she is an active member of Rivertown Artists Guild and GRCiva.  An exhibition of Michigan landscapes in oils –“Close to the Land III” – will be on display at the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce Riverwalk Gallery from July 15 through September 17, 2010.  The gallery will also be open to view the show during the Lowell Riverwalk Weekend – July 8 –10, and Thursday evenings 7-9 the month of July for the Lowell Showboat Sizzlin’ Summer Concert series.

 

 

A recent review of her work stated: “Almost architectural in style, Mary E. Andersen’s landscapes reflect her interest in structure and design.  Working in layers of rich and luminous oils, she captures the essence of a subject, giving the viewer a place to find quiet rest”. (Elizabeth Hinshaw-Hall, Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, October, 2009).

The artist’s work is represented locally by Betsy Ratzsch Pottery in Ada, Michigan as well as galleries in northern Michigan. She also accepts commissioned works.  Visitors to her working studio are warmly welcomed.
